The only thing I can really contribute to this is that the same pesticides that are known to harm bees also harm the soil dwellers (earthworms and such).

We pull our honey in late August, just before Labor Day with good results. Anything later than that gets risky. We also wait until each super is completely full and capped before adding additional supers.
