Dead drones at hive entrance

Post by robyn80027 » Tue May 13, 2014 3:26 pm

Hello, experienced beekeepers! (My hive is only a year old)
I have noticed lots of dead bees at the (Warre) hive entrance, especially after this years' May 11-12 snow dump. More than half of the bees are drones, and some of the bees seen to be small or undeveloped. Is this just the hive getting rid of excess bees because of the cold, or do I need to be concerned?

Also, how does the unusual cold affect the nectar flow?
Thanks for insights.
Robyn
