Pullilng Honey frames from supers, when?

Post by sunigam » Thu Aug 27, 2015 9:37 am

5 of my hives have supers that have frames that are partially capped or filled with nectar. It's is time to pull frames off but with everything being late this I'm thinking of leaving for another week. The conundrum is that I need to treat the hives for mites soon. Any one else dealing with this timing issue. The colony seems to be slow to convert the nectar to honey as the frames have been full for a couple of weeks.

I am new to beekeeping and started a hive this past spring. We have 2 brood boxes and 2 honey supers on top. We also have a lot of nectar in our hive. What do you plan to do for mite treatment? We tested for mites earlier in the year with powdered sugar but did not see many.

We pull our honey in late August, just before Labor Day with good results. Anything later than that gets risky. We also wait until each super is completely full and capped before adding additional supers.
