Community Beekeeping

Suggested Donation: $40.00 per person, but don't let that stop you from coming. All are welcome.
November 16, 2013 from 10AM to 12 Noon.

Learn why we should all come together to help the bees. There are many ways to contribute. You don't have to be a beekeeper, but you can!

Location: Living Systems Institute (LSI) classroom, Golden (Peggy's place)
16980 W 12th Ave, Golden, CO

You are highly encouraged to use mapquest to find this address. GPS systems frequently get it wrong. Parking is out front ... 1st house off S. Golden Road.

Topics covered will include:
1 - systemic poisons in brief, but that's not all the bees must survive
2 - recent weather events killing bees (April freezes & September floods)
3 - beehive build as a group ... take one home with you in February
4 - suggested plants ... when gardeners want to help the bees
5 - bee safe neighborhoods
6 - host a swarm trap

Don Studinski, dba Honeybee Keep, is a principal permaculture enthusiast at Living Systems Institute (LSI) where he applies permaculture philosophy to beekeeping. Apiaries under Don's management are located from Golden to Erie, spanning about 50 miles. Honeybee Keep manages Colorado's first Certified Naturally Grown apiaries. Don's beekeeping articles have been published in Bee Culture magazine and on-line at Honeybee Haven, Selene River Press, Peak Prosperity and Pesticide Action Network. As a beekeeping mentor, Don provides advice and counsel for students throughout the United States.
