Native Bees and Beehive Mechanics Presentation

Post by BLBees » Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:41 pm

Join Bluff Lake Nature Center and the Butterfly Pavilion TOMORROW night, Wednesday, November 13th, for an interactive presentation called "Native Bees and Beehive Mechanics". This is the the final talk for the year in Bluff Lake's new Science Speaker Series.

The talk is from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in Stapleton (Stapleton Development Corporation Conference Room, 7350 E. 29th Avenue, Denver, 80238) with time for questions and discussion after the presentation. The cost is only $5 per person and helps support Bluff Lake Nature Center's mission!

Amber Partridge, Entomologist Manager of Terrestrial Invertebrates at the Butterfly Pavilion, will be presenting the program. Here is a synopsis of the program: Not all bees are created equal-come learn about common bees found in Colorado, some of nature’s most important pollinators, and their importance to our local economy. An Entomologist from the Butterfly Pavilion will explain how exactly bees build a beehive. Find out the mechanics behind these miraculous structures, both natural and man-made, and how the hive operates once it is built. Structures like this might be soundly built, but they are not indestructible; impacts of disease can take their toll. The resilience of bees, like most things in nature, will be explored in this interactive presentation.
