Boulder County Fair
July 28 - August 6
It’s time for the 2017 Boulder County Fair, which runs from July 28 – August 6. BCBA will have a booth set up, staffed by BCBA volunteers, with cool stuff and a demonstration hive. And of course you can visit the rest of the fair before or after your shift.
This spring, BCBA Members expressed a strong interest in public outreach for bees. This is a great chance to talk with people about honey bees. The more people know about this amazing creature, they more they will care bees and protect them — Talk about the waggle dance, the Queen, whether the bee that stung them once was really a wasp. Encourage folks to use fewer insecticides and to plan great flowering forage.
New beekeepers — don’t be shy about signing up. You know enough, you really do, and your enthusiasm for bees will be infectious.
We decided to try technology this year for volunteers to sign up, rather than playing phone tag to find an open shift. There is a link below that will take you to a Doodle Poll to sign up for a shift. The shifts are 3 hours long, starting at 11, 2, and 5 o’clock.
Sign Up Now
To sign up, just write your name in a blank, find a shift that doesn’t have 2 people already signed up, and make a check. Sometimes the doodle makes you uncheck all the shifts you don’t want to work — thank you for your patience as we work the kinks out of this system. We think you should also be able to change shifts using this app. Don’t forget to put the shift in your calendar.
If you are unable to figure out how to do the Doodle Poll, send an email to [email protected], with your first 3 picks for shifts and dates, and I’ll try to help you out.
We hope your nectar is flowing and your queens healthy! And thanks for volunteering — see you at the Fair.
