Sooper Swarm

A swarm we picked up the King Soopers parking lot at the intersection of Table Mesa & Broadway in Boulder.

This medium sized swarm located itself in a tree directly above a parked car with an open sunroof.

Andy and the store's manager cordoned off the area with yellow caution tape. It took awhile for the manager to locate the owner of the vehicle parked under the tree, but once he did, we were able to move quickly.

Public swarm collection always draws a crowd (standing just outside of frame in this picture). We shook the bees in the box, buttoned them up, and left the box cordoned off 'til nightfall when we returned to pick them up and drive them to their new home.

We've got hexagonal jars for sale! They're $1.15 apiece and include a gold lug lid. You may have seen these listed as eight or nine ounce flint glass hex jars in the beekeeping and packaging catalogs. They hold 12 ounces of honey, stack beautifully, and are curiously durable.
