does using beeswax harm the bees?

Does using beeswax harm the bees in any way? I'm thinking about making some homemade body butter that calls for 2 Tablespoons of beeswax.

Hi BSG,
You should be using cosmetic or high grade, purified beeswax for products you apply to your body. The best beeswax is from cappings, the wax coverings that are removed during the honey extracting process. This is a normal byproduct of honey harvesting, so there's no harm to the bees. If you're interested in making your own cosmetics with beeswax, you might want to come to the next meeting of the Mile Hive Bee Club where one of our members will be doing a workshop. Tues 11 Oct, 7-9 pm at St John's Cathedral, 13th and Washington, Denver.
Cheers,
