Alternative to Metal Frame Rests?

Post by sageflower » Mon Mar 23, 2015 10:38 am

I am a newbie, and assembling my first hive body today. I do not have metal frame rest protectors, and am wondering if I can lightly sand and paint just that small narrow strip as an alternative to using metal strips? I remember that we do not want to paint the interior of the hive body or the frames, as the bees do not like paint where they build comb.

Is this okay to do on the narrow frame rest? Are there other ideas that work?

Thank you,

Hopeful new beekeeper, Jan (Fort Lupton)

There's no need to paint or to use metal strips. Your frames will rest nicely against the unpainted wood which the bees will coat with propolis over time.
