Hive with no queen

Post by dbrandemuehl » Sat May 16, 2015 12:01 pm

I have a hive that sent out a swarm a month ago. Now the old hive apparently has no queen. Is it as simple as ordering a new queen? It's been 4-5 weeks, and not a single larvae in any cell. There's also a high number of drones. I was looking for a laying worker bee, but don't see any eggs in any brood cells. Where's a good place to source a new queen IMMEDIATELY?

Follow up: I decided to buy a new queen and install her along with a frame of capped brood from the new hive (of the earlier swarm). They were installed on 5/19 when it was only 50 degrees and drizzling. The hive had been without a queen for 4 weeks. If you've never heard the "queenless roar" of a hive without a queen, it is unmistakeable. As of today, there is new capped brood in both deeps from the new queen. All seems to be back to normal.
