Apiary-based education

Post by kboehnlein » Tue Jul 16, 2013 2:18 pm

Hi All!

My name is Katie Boehnlein and I live in Portland, OR. I am a new beekeeper this season through my job at an elementary school in Portland called Catlin Gabel School. We set up a hive this spring and took classes out there throughout the last months of school to show them the life of a hive. This summer I'm writing for Clearing Magazine, a publication that reports on place-based and STEM education projects going on in this Western region. (http://www.clearingmagazine.org/) I'm interested in researching a story about schools that have beehives on their campus that they are using for educational purposes. Does anyone know of any schools that are keeping bees in CO, OR, WA, MT, AK, BC, or ID or know of anyone who is doing apiary-based education outside of a school setting?

Let me know of any leads you have!

Thanks,
Katie Boehnlein
